This is our native Sheffield clay in raw form. It is mined here at the Sheffield Pottery property.It has been air dried and then pulverized in our hammer-mill.
It has no additions to it.
It is useful as an ingredient in earthenware and stoneware clay bodies.
Some people use it as a brown glaze at cone 10. Our Albany Slip Substitute is largely this clay with some additions to mimic original Albany Slip nearly exactly.
Others use it an iron source in celedon reduction glazes.
It is also used as an industrial grinding abrasive medium.
