Old Hickory Number 1 GLAZE CLAY
Old Hickory ball clay is a very high kaolin bearing selection with extremely low levels of carbon content. It provides excellent suspension to all types of glazes especially glazes containing a high percentage of frit which has soluble alkali. Number 1 Glaze provides viscosity control range and excellent rheology for all glaze application methods and especially bell or cone applications processes.
Old Hickory ball clay is domestically and internationally accepted as the best clay for all glaze applications. The No. 1 Glaze clay is virtually carbon free (less than 0.1%) yet provides film strength that can withstand all overglaze techniques.
No. 1 Glaze clay has excellent suspension qualities which provide extended shelf-life for unused glaze. The high suspension value of the No. 1 Glaze clay combined with the excellent strength allows you to minimize, or eliminate expensive additives such as gums or binders.
Old Hickory ball clay has excelled in spraying, dipping, brushing, discoing and bell waterfall applications.
It is a ball clay mined in Kentucky . It is a fine ball clay (< 55%, <1 micron) used in clay bodies to add plasticity and improve strength. In a glaze, it is a source of Alumina and will enhance glaze suspension (see also Ball Clay). It is recommended by Ferro for use in fritted glazes.
